For many young players, stepping onto the Major League court is a dream come true. But for Roman Anthony, that journey went even further—faster than anyone imagined. Just a few years after sitting in the stands watching the World Baseball Classic as a fan, the Boston Red Sox prodigy is now wearing the red, white, and blue jersey of Team USA, and he himself admits that the experience is “so unbelievable it’s almost unreal.”
“I remember the last WBC, I was just a draft pick sitting in the stands in Miami watching the game,” Anthony recalls. “Just seeing that atmosphere was amazing. So now being on the court with those players…it’s truly unbelievable.”

Anthony’s story is one of the most rapid advancements a young talent has made in American baseball today.
From Spectator to National Team Player
Just three years ago, Anthony was still a rising star in the Red Sox’s farm system. He watched the World Baseball Classic as a fan, imagining one day reaching that level.
But baseball sometimes writes stories faster than dreams.
After making his MLB debut in 2025 and impressing in his rookie season, Anthony unexpectedly received the call any American player would covet: an invitation to join Team USA. He was chosen to replace Corbin Carroll, who was forced to withdraw due to injury.
For a player with only 71 MLB games, being called up to the national team for a major international tournament was rare. But Anthony didn’t see it as pressure — he considered it a privilege.
“It’s something you dream about when you’re a kid,” Anthony said. “Just getting that call was incredibly exciting. Being considered for a roster full of top players…it was truly an unbelievable opportunity.”
A locker room full of superstars
When Anthony walked into Team USA’s clubhouse, he immediately realized he was surrounded by names he’d seen on TV all his childhood.
The US roster at the WBC this time was full of superstars: Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Bobby Witt Jr., Cal Raleigh, Alex Bregman — players who were not only All-Stars but also iconic faces of MLB.
For a 21-year-old, being teammates with them felt both exhilarating and surreal.
Anthony admitted he was trying to make the most of every moment.
“Being alongside the best players in the sport is amazing,” he said. “I want to learn as much as possible from people who have played at this high level for years.”
A Lesson Greater Than Baseball
Despite the fierce international competition, Anthony understood that the WBC was also a learning opportunity.
In the locker room, he observed how the stars prepared for the game, how they analyzed their opponents, and how they remained calm under pressure.
For a young player, those lessons could be more important than any hit.
“I grew up watching these guys play,” Anthony said. “Being out there with them and learning from their experience… that would be an amazing experience.”
At the same time, Anthony understood that he wasn’t just there to watch. Team USA entered the tournament with a clear objective: to reclaim the championship.
The Pressure of National Colors
The World Baseball Classic is unlike any other baseball tournament. When a player dons their national colors, everything becomes more emotional—the fans are more passionate, the pressure is greater, and victory carries a deeper meaning.
Anthony knew he was representing his country.
“The opportunity to represent my nation is incredibly special,” he said. “We all understand that the goal is to win.”

A career turning point
For Roman Anthony, the WBC is more than just an international league.
It could be a career turning point.
Playing alongside MLB superstars in national games will help him mature quickly—both skillfully and mentally.
And for the Red Sox, that could be a huge benefit.
If Anthony returns to MLB after the WBC with renewed confidence and experience, Boston could be witnessing the rise of the next big star.
A dream come true
Three years ago, Roman Anthony sat in the stands in Miami, just one fan among a sea of supporters.
Now, he steps onto the court in a Team USA jersey.
And looking back on that journey, even he is still amazed.
“Just being here is amazing,” Anthony said. “I’m enjoying every moment.”
In the world of baseball, where dreams often take years to come true, Roman Anthony has proven that sometimes… they can come faster than anyone imagines.
