BREAKING: An Emotional Return — Mark Budzinski Officially Returns to the Blue Jays After Overcoming the Grief of Losing His Daughter.y1

In one of the most moving stories of the MLB season, Mark “Bud” Budzinski, the first-base coach of the Toronto Blue Jays, has officially returned to the foul court after a long hiatus due to personal reasons — a journey through the pain of losing his beloved daughter.

This isn’t just sports news — it’s a story of mental strength, family love, and the desire to live on for those who remain.

In early summer 2022, the baseball world was shaken when Budzinski abruptly left the team mid-season after receiving devastating news: his eldest daughter, Julia, died at age 17 in an accident on the James River in Virginia.

Julia—who was always curious about the outcome of each game and asked her father about the team’s situation every day—was severely injured after being struck by a boat propeller during a tubing accident, leaving her family, friends, and baseball fans in shock.

Budzinski immediately stepped away from the sport to be with his wife Monica and their two remaining children, Josh and Lily, to share in their irreplaceable grief.

The love and support from the Blue Jays organization, players, coaches, and fans across MLB poured in, as everyone stood by the family during their darkest days.

Throughout Budzinski’s absence, the team and his colleagues showed unwavering solidarity.

Before a game immediately following the tragic news, players and coaches from the Blue Jays and opposing teams lined up on the foul lane for a minute of silence in memory of Julia—a gesture that transcended sportsmanship, demonstrating profound humanity.

Budzinski’s colleagues also emphasized: “Bud was a wonderful man. It’s hard for anyone to understand this pain… but he was always considered part of the baseball family.” — representing human values that transcended all on-field achievements.

After nearly three weeks away from the team to focus on family and profound reflections on life’s values, Budzinski returned to his position as field coach for a crucial game at Fenway Park, where he was greeted with hugs, words of encouragement, and sympathetic glances from the entire team.

In his emotional return, Budzinski shared that his presence on the field was not just for baseball — but to continue living out the beautiful memories of Julia, to let his family know they are not alone, and to continue inspiring those around him.

Budzinski’s story is proof of something many fans can only truly understand when faced with real loss: baseball is more than just a game—it’s about community, sharing, and what keeps people going when the world seems to be falling apart.

Now, as Budzinski steps into the dugout in a Blue Jays uniform, he is more than just a coach—he is an image of strength, a testament to loyalty, and an inspiration to thousands of sports fans around the world.
