BREAKING: “The Tommy John Nightmare” and a Hopeful Return – The Phillies Await Moisés Chace’s Rebirth.y1

In the world of baseball, injuries not only take away time but also test willpower.

For Moisés Chace, that was Tommy John – the surgery that haunted so many pitchers.

A moment that seemed to end his rise is now gradually becoming the starting point for a stronger version of himself.

Not long ago, Moisés Chace was a name that excited the Philadelphia Phillies’ farm system.

After being traded from Baltimore in 2024, he quickly impressed with his fastball speed reaching upper-90 mph and his fearsome strikeout ability.

But then everything suddenly stalled.

Moisés Chace makes spring debut for Phillies

At the beginning of the 2025 season, he could no longer maintain his familiar speed. Unusual signs appeared, but no one had a clear answer.

Until May 14th, when he was forced to leave the court after just two innings due to an elbow injury – a moment that marked the beginning of a dark period. Moisés Chace then underwent Tommy John surgery, officially ending his season.

But what makes this story special isn’t the injury itself, but how he faced it.

For almost 10 months, Moisés Chace didn’t leave the team’s training facility. He persevered in training, recovering step by step, from the first light throws to comprehensive physical improvement.

Remarkably, during that time, he not only recovered physically but also transformed as a person.

Player development director Luke Murton couldn’t hide his admiration.

Phillies prospect impresses on, off field during Tommy John recovery: 'He's really shown the ability to get back up and go' | Phillies Nation - Your source for Philadelphia Phillies news, opinion,

He stated that the young player had significantly improved his physique, become stronger, and even completed English language courses during his recovery – a small detail but one that shows his overall growth.

“He was knocked down, but the important thing is he got back up,” Murton shared.

That’s what’s special. Not every talent knows how to bounce back after a fall. But Moisés Chace is showing that he’s not just a promising pitcher, but a true warrior.

Currently, the Philadelphia Phillies are heading towards a crucial milestone: his mid-season return.

While there’s no specific date yet, the signals from within the team are very positive. If there are no complications, fans could see him return to the mound this summer.

However, the road ahead is not easy. Tommy John surgery often takes a pitcher a long time to regain his feel for the ball, control, and especially his peak speed.

Tommy John surgery may save a career, but it doesn’t guarantee everything will be back to normal immediately.

The Phillies understand that. They’ve seen many similar cases where pitchers need more time to regain their form. But with Moisés Chace, the belief doesn’t come from the past, but from what he’s demonstrating every day.

Moisés Chace K's two in the first inning

A fitter body, a stronger spirit, and an unyielding attitude – these are the factors that make the coaching staff believe he can not only return, but return even better.

At 22, Moisés Chace’s journey is still very long. Injuries may have slowed his progress, but they have also honed his character.

And in a system searching for breakout pitchers, his return could mean far more than just a prospect.

The big question now isn’t whether he’ll return. It’s: when he does, what version of Moisés Chace will he be?

A talent whose career was interrupted… or a star forged in adversity? Given what’s happening, the Philadelphia Phillies are waiting for answers – and quite possibly, so is MLB.
