BREAKING: “Half-human, half-robot machine” causes a sensation in Toronto – Josh Kasevich catches the Blue Jays’ attention in spring training.y1

This year’s spring training for the Toronto Blue Jays has unexpectedly produced a name that has been constantly talked about by the coaching staff and fans: Josh Kasevich.

Not a big-name prospect, nor a player expected to immediately secure a starting spot, but in just a few weeks of spring training, Kasevich has created a story that has captured the team’s attention. And now, many believe he is very close to his first MLB opportunity.

Kasevich entered spring training in 2026 with the mindset of a player needing to prove a lot. After a 2025 season marred by injury, few thought he could make such a strong impression so quickly.

But what is happening is completely the opposite.

In spring practice games, Kasevich has shown extremely consistent performance with 8 hits in 23 assaults, 4 runs, and one home run. Even more remarkable is that he didn’t suffer a strikeout in 23 plate appearances – a rare statistic when facing MLB-level pitchers.

This incredible consistency made the Toronto coaching staff look at him in a different light.

One of the things that impressed Kasevich most was his near-perfect ball contact.

According to swing tracking data, in 39 swings during spring training, he only had 5 swing-and-misses. This rate astonished many coaches.

One coaching staff member even joked that Kasevich was like a “half-robot” – half human, half robot – when standing in the batter’s box.

This nickname quickly spread within the team and became a popular story of this year’s spring training.

Another factor that gave Kasevich many opportunities to showcase his skills was the fact that many Blue Jays players were participating in the World Baseball Classic.

The absence of key infield players forced the coaching staff to give more opportunities to prospects.

And Kasevich took advantage of that opportunity almost perfectly.

The Toronto coaching staff said they always appreciated the young player’s control of the club, his competitive mindset, and his discipline in every shot. But the 2026 spring training is when he will truly show he is ready for a bigger challenge.

Josh Kasevich 2024 Minor League Highlights!

Josh Kasevich’s path to MLB wasn’t always smooth.

He was a star at the University of Oregon before being selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Upon entering the minor leagues, Kasevich quickly gained attention for his disciplined play and solid shortstop defense.

But the 2025 season turned out to be a major shock.

A back injury caused him to miss much of the season, and after his return, his performance declined significantly. In 29 games at Triple-A Buffalo, Kasevich only averaged .173 batting, leading many to question whether he could continue to develop.

That was the most difficult period of his career.

Instead of accepting defeat, Kasevich decided to dedicate the entire winter to training.

He participated in supplemental training programs, improving his physical strength and adjusting his swing.

When he returned to spring training camp this year, the Blue Jays coaches immediately noticed the difference.

Not only was his fitness improved, but his confidence in front of MLB pitchers was also evident.

Toronto entered the new season with some question marks regarding their infield reserves. This made players who could play multiple positions extremely important.

Kasevich was exactly that kind of player.

He could play shortstop, second base, and even support in various other infield positions when needed.

In modern baseball, versatile players like him are often crucial tactical pieces throughout the 162-game season.

However, Kasevich doesn’t yet have a guaranteed spot on the Opening Day roster.

He’s currently a non-roster invitee, meaning he still needs to prove himself before earning a starting position.

But the most important thing is simple:

The coaching staff is watching him closely.

In MLB, a single explosive spring training session can completely change a player’s career path.

As spring training in 2026 draws to a close, Josh Kasevich has done the most important thing.

He’s made everyone talk about him.

From a player once plagued by injury and doubt, Kasevich is quietly writing his own comeback story.

And if his current form continues, Toronto Blue Jays fans may soon see a new face step onto the MLB court.

A player who was once forgotten.

But now stands before the biggest opportunity of his career.
