Just days before the official start of spring training in 2026 at Camelback Ranch, Alex Vesia – the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lefty reliever clutch – moved millions to tears when he publicly shared, for the first time, a touching dream about his baby daughter, Sterling Sol, who tragically passed away in October 2025, right in the middle of the Dodgers’ World Series championship.
In a private but emotional interview with MLB Network and reporters in Arizona, Vesia – who had to leave the team mid-postseason due to “deep family issues” – couldn’t hold back his tears as he recounted his dream: “I dreamed Sterling was smiling, wearing my Dodgers number 51 jersey, running around Dodger Stadium. She was tiny, but she was smiling so loudly and brightly. When I woke up, I cried, but not because of the pain – because I knew she was still here, the source of strength for me to pitch every day.”
Sterling Sol Vesia – “the most beautiful girl in the world,” as Vesia once called her – was born and passed away in a fleeting moment on October 26, 2025, just days after the Dodgers announced Vesia’s absence due to “deeply personal family matters.” He and his wife Kayla had precious moments together: holding their daughter, changing her diapers, reading her to sleep, and loving her with all their hearts. But life changed in just “10 minutes,” as Vesia tearfully shared in his first public six-minute statement back in February.
Now, on the eve of the new season – where the Dodgers are aiming for a back-to-back World Series – Vesia reveals this dream as a promise: “Every time I step onto the mound, I pitch for Sterling. He’s the motivation for me to stay healthy, to help the team win. We carry him with us every day – in our hearts, in our jerseys, in every pitch. Therapy helps us a lot, but this dream… it’s like he’s saying, ‘Dad, keep going, I’m proud of you!'”
Vesia, 29, was once a mainstay bullpen for the Dodgers with a low ERA, high strikeout, and clutch performance in the postseason of 2025 (before leaving the team). He returned to the mound for spring training to a warm welcome from teammates, fans, and even opponents. “Cheers and lots of love” echoed across the practice court as he pitched his first pitch – a moment that brought him to tears. “The Dodgers are our second family. They’ve been with us all along, from the Blue Jays bullpen sending shirts with Sterling’s name on them, to fans sending letters and flowers… Baseball is bigger than baseball. It’s love, it’s community.”

Kayla – his strong wife – also shared on Instagram: “Sterling was our light. Alex’s dream is proof that he’s still here, watching over his dad from above.” The couple began therapy in late 2025, encouraging those experiencing similar losses to seek help. “Talking about our pain helps us heal,” Vesia said. “And now, I’m ready for 2026 – for Sterling, for Kayla, for the Dodgers Nation.”
Dodgers fans are going wild on social media: “Alex, we love you and Sterling! Every strikeout is for you!”, “From World Series championship to angelic dream – this is the most beautiful story in MLB!”, “Dodger Stadium will explode when you step onto the mound for the first time this season – with Sterling on your shoulders!”
This isn’t just the story of a player – it’s the journey of a father, a husband, and a warrior. Alex Vesia is back not to “play basketball” – but to live, to honor Sterling Sol, and to remind us all: Life is fragile, but love and hope are eternal.
On the eve of Opening Day 2026, Dodgers Nation sends Vesia and Kayla all its love. Sterling Sol – our little angel – will forever be an inspiration. Alex, throw hard – for you, for us!
